When I turned 49-years-old I was not happy with my weight. I had gotten married two years earlier and had started my own business that same year. Happy married life, cooking for a husband who can eat anything he wants and not gain an ounce, and the stress of starting a business had put way too many pounds on my body.  I was not happy one bit.

Then I had an idea. 50 by 50!! I would set my goal to lose 50 lbs by the time of my 50th anniversary. To motivate myself, I had a logo designed for my campaign with a drastically photo-shopped image of myself that was to inspire me.  I even had thoughts of blogging about it. (Sound familiar?)  I then signed up for a package of fitness training and coaching and was certain that would do it.

Yeah…no.

 

 

I honestly don’t remember what got in my way or what excuse I gave myself for not even getting momentum on that particular weight loss attempt.  My 50th birthday came and went with me wearing pretty much the same size clothes that I had been for the previous year.

Fast forward to this year and my annual weight gain had not really abated. At the beginning of 2019 I was facing the need to lose 100 lbs.  It took a combination of many things and the support of many friends to get me going and now to be at a point to celebrate a milestone.

The week before my 58th birthday I showed a 50-pound weight loss on the scale. I have actually lost 5-0 pounds since January 1, 2019. I’m so happy I could just bust open!

I was able to celebrate my birthday in the best way possible. I spent the time with loved ones starting with a morning beach meditation with my best friend, Teri, followed by an egg white omelet for breakfast.  Lunch was a festive occasion with Teri and dear friend Lee at Simon’s Café where I had a fabulous green salad.  The brownie with whipped cream that was delivered to our table with a birthday candle was nibbled on by others at the table and sent home to husbands to enjoy.

The piece de la resistance was dinner with my beloved Pablo. It was not steak or any other fancy meal. I enjoyed my very first cauliflower pizza!!!!  Yay! It was so delicious, too.

Now the celebrations are over and it’s back to the focus of everyday healthy choices. I’m going to continue to chip away at that 100 pound total. This time, I don’t have a calendar goal. It will happen when it happens.

But this time, I KNOW in my very core that I will reach this goal.
